-Victor Hugo With the rising prices of everything these days, our purses are a lot more empty, what with $70 fill-ups at the pumps, weekly grocery bills that have increased by 20 percent or more and additional costs with our summer plans. Unfortunately, this type of purse-emptying does not make our hearts full.
There is a remedy for that! Please consider
filling your heart by making an
online donation to Moveable Feast today or for information on donating in other
ways, please contact Jeff at 410.327.3420 x11. Your
contribution will help us continue to deliver medically
nutritious meals to our clients living with HIV/AIDS or
breast cancer. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

An update on our prospective funding for the upcoming funding cycle:
Last week Moveable Feast staff Nancy Guest (Client Services), Ruth Saunders (Dietician) and Tom Bonderenko (Executive Director) attended a two-day Ryan White Planning Council for the Baltimore EMA (eligible metropolitan area). The Council has been faced with cutting more than $300k from the direct services budget, and the Health Department had informed Moveable Feast that it was at high risk for facing a significant cut in funding; however, despite this caveat, Moveable Feast fared rather well. While much still depends on final Ryan White allocation from the federal government in the next month, for the Ryan White Part A funding: the Council voted on increased funding for food, flat funding for medical transport, and increased funding for dietary services. The Planning Council will face the same challenge in January when they address similar funding cuts in the Ryan White MAI (Minority Aids initiative).
Want to volunteer at Moveable Feast but can’t make it during the day? We recently started “Volunteer Nights” on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30pm. Volunteers can assist with food preparation, meal packaging and grocery bag packing. On the first Wednesday and third Thursday of the month we will also have a baking group during the session. For additional information, please contact Tom Patrick at 443-904-3313.
On June 30th, Moveable Feast began a 12 week Culinary Training Program. This program offers training to people in order for them to obtain a job in the food service industry. Students spend time both in the classroom and in the kitchen learning new skills that will empower them to obtain jobs. This year Moveable Feast has partnered with Christopher Place and The Jericho Program to offer additional training and education to the students. Many of our students have been in prison, or are in recovery, and this training program helps them make positive changes in their lives. At the end of the 12 week program there will be a graduation ceremony where the students will prepare a delicious lunch, showcasing their new talents.

On Sunday
evening, September 14, Moveable Feast will be volunteering
at Maryland Public Television during their pledge drive to
increase awareness for Moveable Feast as well as the Dining
Out for Life event which follows on that Thursday.
From Farm to Feast Moveable Feast is excited to announce a new partnership with First Fruits Farm, an organization providing fresh produce, honey, eggs, and beef to agencies providing food to people in need. Volunteers help harvest the crops at the farm in Freeland and then distribute the produce through their network of shelters, food banks, and soup kitchens. We are always looking for a way to provide produce to our clients, and so far we have been able to send out fresh, locally grown collard greens and green beans! For more information on First Fruits Farm, please visit www.firstfruitsfarm.org/.
Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Community Center Grand Opening On June 26th, 901 North Milton Avenue the location of Moveable Feast’s facility held an open house. Hundreds of people turned out to tour the entire facility which is home to several non profit organizations. Mayor Sheila Dixon and City Council President Stephanie Rawlings Blake both spoke about the importance of Moveable Feast in the community and the excitement that they share about our new home. We were particularly honored to have the husband of one of our clients speak. His wife is living with breast cancer and he shared with those in attendance that without Moveable Feast’s services, he would be unable to feed his family. The open house also provided an opportunity for the residents of this neighborhood in East Baltimore to learn about our services.
